How to Participate

One of the Bukati-Project Goals is:

Educate all AIDS orphans in Butula, Western Kenya

Unfortunately, in early 2008, there was significant political and tribal violence in Kenya.
More than 1,000 people died in January and February alone.

The fighting caused many orphans to be sent to the town of Butula, where the Bukati school is located. As a result, the school added 116 new children, all of whom needed uniforms. The parents of some of these children were killed in the violence in the Rift Valley and Nairobi. Other children were AIDS orphans who were forced to move back to their ancestral homeland to avoid violence. This has put additional pressure on the adults in the community who have had to take in more children. This means that the school needs to raise more money to feed more children.

For more details directly from the Bukati School Principal's emails, in March and May 2008, please click here.

The following photos show some of the devastation caused by the fighting.
These photos were taken within 200 Km. of Bukati school.
There was definitely violence much closer to the community than that, but there are no photos closer than this.
