New Latrines

As of May, 2010, the 18 new latrines, that were paid for with money raised by Rotary Clubs on Vancouver Island are almost complete. The girls will use them and the boys will have the old ones. They dug an extra deep pit under the new latrines so they will be functional for a long time. The brick and cement construction will last much longer than the wooden version that gets eaten by termites.

Above: Randy Dewey; Doug and Dorothy Sly. Doug led the project on Vancouver Island to raise the money for the 18 new latrines. The Rotary Club that Doug belonged to is the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach Sunrise.
Doug traveled to many Rotary Clubs on the Island, presenting the project and asking for support.  Together the clubs donated $10,100 to build the latrines.

Thank you, Doug, Dorothy, and the Rotary Clubs of Vancouver Island.
Please note that Doug and Dorothy did not go to Kenya.
Aside: Dorothy's University Women's club is supporting one high school student.
